The new tourism law will be implemented on June 1, 2021. It replaces all existing tourism laws in Arosa and thus applies to all villages in the larger municipality and brings some innovations with it.

One of the most important innovations:
The overnight guest is no longer taxed, but the basis is the capacity. The new accommodation tax is collected by the municipality and no longer by Arosa Tourism as with the old sports and guest tax. This applies to the landlords of holiday apartments as well as hotels and guest houses.

Anyone who rents an apartment for more than 28 days a year also must pay an accommodation tax. This is made up of the basic fee of CHF 400 (per apartment) plus a variable fee of CHF 22 per square meter of net living space. A fee of CHF 8 per square meter and a basic fee of CHF 400 are charged for own use or rental of less than 28 days.
In addition to the accommodation tax, a tourism promotion tax will be levied as before. But there is a difference here too:
The basis for calculation is no longer the overnight stays but consists of a basic fee of CHF 200 and a variable fee, which in turn is based on the capacity. The accommodation providers pay CHF 3.50 per square meter of net living space.

For a 3 ½ - room holiday apartment of 100 m2 for own use or for renting for less than 28 days, fees will now be charged at CHF 1,200 (basic fee CHF 400 plus 100 m2 at CHF 8). So far, a flat rate of CHF 931.20 has been charged for a 3 ½ - room holiday apartment, regardless of the size.

The most important documents and questions about the new law and regulations are available on the websites of the municipality of Arosa and Arosa Tourismus:
